Ongoing Activities
Regular networking and professional development opportunities for women economists across Canada.
Regular Programming
CWEN/RFÉ maintains a consistent calendar of activities designed to foster connection, visibility, and career advancement for women in the economics profession. These activities are open to members and the broader community of women economists in Canada.
Annual CEA Meeting Sessions
Each year, CWEN/RFÉ organizes paper presentation sessions at the Canadian Economics Association (CEA) meetings. These sessions provide a platform for women economists to present research, receive feedback, and build professional visibility within the discipline.
CWEN Luncheon
A highlight of the annual CEA conference is the CWEN Luncheon, which brings together members and allies for networking and features a keynote address from a distinguished economist. Past luncheons have included speakers such as Raquel Fernandez of NYU, who delivered the keynote at the 2015 CEA Conference held at Ryerson University in Toronto.
Biennial Initiatives
Every two years, the organization alternates between two major initiatives:
- Gender Composition Survey: A survey of the gender composition of faculty and students in academic economics departments across Canada, published as the Report of the Status of Women Economists.
- Young Researcher Award: The award recognizes research excellence by a young woman economist, with a prize of $1000. It was established in 2010 and is awarded biennially.
Professional Development & Mentoring
CWEN/RFÉ supports members through resources and informal mentoring opportunities. Topics include advice on tenure, job market preparation, publishing strategies, and navigating academic career paths. These resources are available to members through the network's resource library.
